“These are old houses. This house has been here for over 100 years,” said Rachel Feig, a resident. She said her home has seen a lot, but not anything like what it’s seen in the last few years. At Victor and Abrams Streets, Feig said speeding outruns caution.

“He hit that dart bench and the trash can. Th...

“When you look at cars trying to turn out here, especially during rush hour, this traffic is coming hot and heavy. It's going, drivers are going 60 miles an hour,” Rader said.

Currently, there’s only one stop sign for the cars coming out of the many businesses and apartments and going onto the six lanes of Garland Rd....

There was a shooting downtown this afternoon

The Dallas Morning News quotes a resident in The Continental apartment high-rise saying they heard a barrage of gunfire and opened their doors to find “blood in the hallway and elevator.” The complex is located at 1800 Commerce Street, across the street from the Statler Hotel. WFAA “sources” say three people were shot and the suspect escaped. Police call logs show officers were dispatched about 1 p.m. There is no indication of gunfire on the streets.

DART claws its way back after COVID, crime and other setbacks hit ridership hard

Dirty buses. Late buses or ones that don’t show up at all. Suspicious loitering. Even people shot dead on trains or at light rail stations.

These are some of the worrisome complaints North Texans cite as DART ridership has plummeted by almost half during the pandemic, and it is still 28 million rides below what it was in 2019, according to the transit system’s most recent financial report.

DART knows it has a problem beyond the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. And DART’s top officer is det

Dallas: The City That Hates Pedestrians, Pt. 44

It’s time we brought this series back (… for the second time ). The city is buzzing and the sidewalks aren’t always accommodating. We’re back this week in Deep Ellum and both of the below images are along Main Street, the first at Trunk Avenue and the following at 2nd Avenue. Construction has torn up the sidewalks, pushing walkers into the street. And considering how walkable Deep Ellum should be, it’s a shame that there aren’t safe alternatives for pedestrians who are looking to get past this s

In booming region, will DART overhaul give Dallas a bus system that connects people with jobs?

The long-promised and even longer-overdue overhaul of DART’s bus system — neglected for decades while the transit agency focused on flashy rail projects — will finally roll out in January.

The new network plan, unanimously approved last week by DART’s board of directors, won’t fix nearly everything in a system that too often strands those most dependent on its services.

But the system redo is a decent start — albeit five years after the Dallas City Council at last snapped to DART’s misaligned

The Death, Life of Dallas Transit Discussed During Public Symposium

Before Dallas can build a new plan for its public transit infrastructure, it must decide what kind of system it wants: one that attracts the largest number of riders possible, or one that serves everyone in the city equally, a transit expert told a crowd of 200 people at a public forum Friday. The event, The Death and Life of Dallas Transit Symposium, was held Friday morning at Old Parkland. The forum was divided into three panel discussions featuring city leaders such as Dallas Area Rapid Transi

Dallas: The City That Hates Pedestrians, Pt. 16

This is another one close to our office on the border of the Arts District, at Harwood and Flora, near the side entrance of the Dallas Museum of Art. It comes from FrontBurnervian and habitual walker Doyle Rader.

There’s a few things going on here. There’s the utility work, which requires the full-on construction tape and orange cone blockade. But just out of view to your left is the Trammell Crow expansion construction, which has already wiped out the adjacent sidewalk. I told you about that l
